A2A is the largest Italian multi-utility. The company works with about 12,000 people in 5 different sectors: generation and trading, commerce, environment, heat and networks. Leading in environmental services and district heating, A2A is the second Italian energy producer, the second operator in electricity distribution networks, and one of the first in gas and water cycle networks. A2A also focuses on research and invests in new technologies as Internet of Things (IoT), which provides solutions for managing smart city services.
Internal Communication and Training in A2A's Smart Working Project
In the approach to Smart Working A2A, like many other realities, has decided to move gradually, starting with a first pilot experiment, useful both to introduce progressively this new way of organizing the work, and to verify its goodness and usefulness in its context. During the implementation of the Smart Working project, A2A has made use of Variazioni technical support both in defining some internal communication tools and in supporting smart workers and smart managers to strengthen some new skills which enable them to adapt to new work styles. One of the drivers that permitted A2A to make the experience effective was to jointly design and deliver classroom training both to managers and smart workers, proposing the first to adopt new leadership styles and to the second to boost their smart skills and to improve their time management. To both of them has been proposed the strengthening of the trust-based relationship. Equally, the focus was on setting up an innovative and engaging communication strategy: not only to inform, but also to raise awareness and involve the recipients. Several tools have been developed, which have proved to be dynamic and effective, such as Q & A and videos that were used during meetings and training sessions to communicate in a concrete way the philosophy and commitment of the company to the project.
